“Do more with less”

Go google ‘architecture', you will find all kinds of fancy and extravagant shapes of buildings. Billions of dollars are poured into some city icons and monuments today. These icons demand all the major resources on earth to benefit less than 10 percent of the world population.

At different corners of the world, a new grassroots practice is emerging. Local communities, volunteering architects and young professionals team up to make a difference, learn traditional building materials and techniques and experiment new ways of building more sustainable community life.

This evening Changfang will bring you to the world of grassroots architecture. Through short documentaries and photos, we will together discover a new tribe of architects who use natural resources to create small scale, elegant architecture with maximum social and environmental impact.

Changfang Luo and Rob Breed are the founders of AiD, Architecture in Development, a website to crowdsource community architecture projects. Today the platform has grown to a database of 500+ cases with an outreach of more than 50,000 building professionals across all continents. The ambition of the founders is to transform AiD into a match-making platform to connect the project initiators to supporters so that they can exchange knowledge, share resources and co-create architecture that makes a difference.
