Tom van Arman

is an architect & urbanist using open data, api’s & IoT solutions to create more social, sustainable & resilient cities. In 2010 he founded Tapp an award winning agency enabling local governments and industries to become leaders in bottom up digital revolution. Using agile and lean start-up methodologies, Tapp works with public and private partners to rapid prototype solutions to solve urgent urban problems.

In 2018 he co-founded CITIXL (City Innovation Exchange Lab) to share solutions with municipal partners from around the world. By utilising living-labs, city officials can reduce risks and costs while empowering their citizens to co-create easy, simple and effective solutions for a more participatory process to think, create, share and nurture future cities.

Tom is also on the board of Appsterdam (a 3000+ maker community) organising hackathons and other tech-events for Amsterdam Economic Board and a curator for Amsterdam Smart City. He is also a regular guest lecturer at Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA), Vrij University (VU Amsterdam), The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), EIT InnoEnergy & Wentworth Instutute of Technology (WIT - Boston).

Smart City Safari Tour!

What is the future of architecture and urban planning in our hyper-digital era? The ubiquity of smart phones and the internet of everything (IoT) are producing colossal amounts of data that, when used responsibly, become blueprints of how to build sustainable and inclusive cities.

On this tour we will go on a “Safari” to explore and discover the many existing smart city solutions in their natural habitat and how they are making smart cities like Amsterdam more responsive and resilient.

For the first time, you’ll be able to see a whole new world along the Amsterdam Waterfront wherea new AR app (Augmented Reality) will show you technologies normally invisible to the public eye. With your own phone you’ll be able to locate the many air & water quality sensors, Citizen Kits, LoRa transmitters, eBike sharing, iBeacons, Smart Waste, Blue Roofs, clean tech and many more living smart city solutions. There are many technologies operating (albeit hidden from our daily life) all around Amsterdam.

During this 30-40 minute walk we’ll be exploring the business cases like “What problem does this device solve for the city?”, “What does this platform actually offer designers?”, “How do we as citizens benefit from these solutions?”. The 2km stretch between Central Station and the Marineterrein (Amsterdam Smart City HQ & Makerversity) provides a rich cross section of smart city functions.

Club A
is een architectennetwerk in de regio Amsterdam, binnen de Bond van Nederlandse Architecten (BNA), voorheen: BNA kring Amsterdam Kennemerland.

Club A is ook de naam van een inspirerende reeks clubavonden.
Wij ontmoeten elkaar in een informele sfeervolle setting, ontspannen uitwisseling staat centraal.
Wij komen bewust in de tweede helft van de avond bij elkaar.

Inloop 20:45 uur, begin 21:00 uur.

Het programma duurt ca. 75 minuten, daarna borrel aan de bar, Pension Homeland.

Dit seizoen
trekt Club A er weer op uit, wij verkennen onze omgeving, en komen op inspirerende locaties bij elkaar. Eén of meerdere sprekers leiden de avond in, daarna is er ruimschoots tijd om met elkaar in gesprek te gaan.
Omdat wij dit seizoen op locaties te bezoek zijn, die volop in gebruik zijn, zullen de lezingen/rondleidingen als

worden verzorgd, door middel van het gebruik van microfoon-headsets.
Wij spreken af bij iAmsterdam (VVV) Tourist Pavilion op het Stationsplein, en maken vanaf daar gezamenlijk de wandeling op de Smart City Mile, naar het Marineterrein.
